What's on TV?

"Think" on KERA Channel 13, Dallas.

(Hosted by the very cool Krys Boyd.)

Topic A Father's Journey with His Wordless Daughter

Guest Robert Rummel-Hudson, Peter Brown, & Kent Haruf

Description What can we learn about tenacity and joy from children, even when they're unable to communicate verbally? Robert Rummel-Hudson, whose daughter was diagnosed at age 3 with polymicrogyria, a rare disorder that leaves her unable to speak, will join us this evening to discuss his family's triumphs in the face of an extraordinary challenge. His book is "Schuyler's Monster: A Father's Journey with His Wordless Daughter" (St. Martin's Press, 2008).

How is Julie doing?

I am having a great time. I got to meet Krys Boyd before the taping of the show on Friday. Her sister and I use to work together, so I was a total dork and had Jeff take me to see Krys and say 'hi'. It was great to see everyone come out to both signings at my store and in Dallas. There's so much love and support from our families, the AAC family, Schuyler's school and people who have read Rob forever and decided to come out and meet him. Then, if it couldn't get any better, a smashing review in People. I am so proud of him!

And just when I thought it couldn't get any sweeter, this link popped up into my reader:

Rob,

What a wonderful interview. You were really eloquent and I was so very impressed. I'll be your first Canadian customer! Well done.

Julie, I'm so glad that you're having a good time, too. Even though you didn't write the book, you deserve a lot of credit for agreeing to let Rob share your story so openly. And, of course, for what you do for your family. Kudos to you too!

Awesome stuff, guys. You came across great, Rob.

Amazon UK emailed me to say my pre-order is delayed, hopefully they'll get it soon.

Been reading your stuff since the Robservation days (1996-ish?), so this is very weird and very exciting for me, so god knows how it feels for you :)

Dude! You rocked it much the way you're rocking all the major lists and your book signing!

it was awesome to see you, Julie and my pretty in pink Schuyler again.

Hugs and big kisses to you all,

That was great!

I saw that your book was in at a local independent book shop. I'm going to grab a copy this weekend.

Holy cow, I just noticed online that Barnes and Noble has you ranked at #257 in overall book sales! Being unable to not investigate anything I'm curious about, I check Amazon, too. They have it at #716, but #1 in Special Needs Children (a subsection of health), #2 in Special Needs (a subsection of parenting) and #3 in Fatherhood (again, in parenting). At this rate you'll be booked on Oprah before the end of the year.

This was great - I'm delighted that you posted it, since I missed the original showing. I also missed both of your local signings, darn it!

Somehow, I don't think you would have wanted me to share this nasty cold with you and Schulyer.

I'll have to be satisfied with a copy of your book, instead. Did you leave any 'signed by author' copies around.

Julie's B&N on 15th in Plano has a TON of signed copies, as does the Dallas store at Prestonwood Center. Also, it looks like I might be doing a signing in Lewisville in April.
