Schuyler, at ten

"It is rare that one can see in a little boy the promise of a man, but one can almost always see in a little girl the threat of a woman."

Ten? Really?

She's as lucky to be so loved as you and Julie are to have such an amazing child.

10 is special. Posibly the only time you'll get to add another digit to your age... (at least for the next 90 years)

I am so glad that you have kept writing your blog after the book and all of the things that have happened to you since the book. I enjoy watching Schuyler grow. She's such a beautiful little girl!

reminds me of this quote, which resonates with even me, a childless (child-free?) person:

"Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body." ~Elizabeth Stone

and this one which is a 'duh':

"It kills you to see them grow up. But I guess it would kill you quicker if they didn't."
~Barbara Kingsolver, from 'Animal Dreams'

um, and this one just for you, Rob in both quote and source:

"Most of us become parents long before we have stopped being children."
~Mignon McLaughlin, The Second Neurotic's Notebook, 1966

I just finished reading the book that was given to me by my grad student speech pathology daughter. As a first grade teacher for thirty years I have seen and worked with many children. This book touched me in so many ways and I can't get it out of my head. I wish you and your family only the best. Happy Birthday Schuyler!!
