After...

Holy fuck, that hurt.

Holy fuck, it hurts now.

Holy fuck, that cost a lot of money.

Holy fuck, he gave me Tylenol 3.

Holy fuck, it's not doing a thing.

You know, I try to be all cute about this, but right at this moment, I am in more pain than I think I have ever been in, ever. And he's not even done with it. He did a root canal on the NEW pain, since it was/is the worst, but he wasn't able to finish it because the tooth is apparently a "bad actor". And he could only do the one tooth, because of something having to do with infections that frankly I didn't hear a word of.

So it'll be another WEEK before this is done. And I have no idea how I'll pay for it, but honestly, that's not the bad part of this. I just can't imagine feeling like this until the end of the day, much less another week.

People keep saying it, and it's absolutely true. There is nothing in the world like bad dental pain. It makes it hard to think or talk or do anything at all.

That diabetic coma isn't sounding so bad right now.

UPDATE, AN HOUR LATER:

Well, codeine might not be much of a pain killer, but it sure does improve your mood once it hits your system with both feet.

An hour ago I was in too much pain to drive home to North Dallas. Now? I might just be too stoned.

Whee!

Oh my God, Rob, I'm so sorry. I hate to say it, but Ambien mixed with a leetle alcohol totally knocks you out. You didn't hear it from me. Here's hoping you survive until next week.

When I had some really extensive abdominal surgery, the post-op home care nurse told me to take a couple of ibuprofen with the pain medication. Worked much better. Not something you want to do on a long-term basis though, as it has it's own side effects. Also, expect your blood sugar to be a little elevated. Infection and pain can do that.

If you can get your dentist to write a prescription for Toradol, it is the only pain medication I've ever taken that actually helped with dental pain. And it's cheap! Hope you feel better soon!

Dude, you could get rid of the beedies if he pulls your sweet tooth. Think about it.

(Running away before you throw something at me, lol!)

Heh, that cracked me up. But I'm stoned, so take that for what it's worth.

Yeah, you can totally take ibuprofen along with tylenol-3. The anti-inflammatory effect might help. Just don't take more tylenol-3 than prescribed, or anything containing more acetaminophen.

Hopefully you're also being hit with hardcore antibiotics if there's that much infection. If, uh, you get a fever or your face swells up or anything? Let them know.

Um...are you accepting donations for your teeth? You should really consider it, that's quite a bill.

Geeze, If it weren't for bad luck you'd have no luck at all.

Time to start playing your country music backwards.

I know I'm going to catch anonymous commenter hell for this, but yeah, absolutely. This is a daunting bill, and it's just getting started.

Rob, I know from the effects of painkillers. When I had my gallbladder out, I didn't think the pain was too bad, then found out it was REALLY bad, at which point I discovered the wonders of Percocet.

It's a really good thing that I'm utterly clueless about the underground prescription drug market, because I would become a junkie in about six seconds.

boy, what a day! i can't believe you are still hurting. nothing stronger than tylenol/codeine?

Yikes!!! Sounds like tomorrow will be better w/ meeting the author.

and this is quite funny, never heard this one before....might have to steal it sometime: "that bullshit on a stick"

OK, remember to use it for your teeth bill, not oxycodone, much as that would probably also help. And fuck the anon posters. If you can avail yourself of some help, do it.

i'm sorry about your tooth pain. i've not been there, but i've been close. it sucks. be careful of the new crowns when you first get them.

WHY do they insist on giving out Tylenol 3? There have been so many occasions where I was given T3 which utterly failed to make a dent in the pain.

Vicodin, on the other hand...that's some magnificent stuff.

I, for one, am an anonymous (only because I have no blogger account) reader who TOTALLY encourages you to accept and even solicit for donations. Having been through tooth terrors myself (still ongoing, unfortunately).

Whoever thinks you have no right to accept or even ask for donations on your site should find another place to read.

If it weren't for my own dental woes, I'd be sending you my spare change!

Hang in there, man. Your readers are giving great advice (most of them) and, in the end, this too shall pass.

As I said before, as someone who went through 18 hours of unmedicated back labor, I prefer it to the tsunami nerve pain of toothache. Hope you're better soon!

Yup, dental pain sucks sweaty donkey balls. I had a filling that went really bad while I was in Sweden -- by the time I got in to the dentist, I was seriously considering just yanking the damn thing out myself, because there was no way it could hurt any worse than what was already throbbing in my lower jaw.

For all my dental terror, I hopped in that chair faster than Anna Nicole Smith in her redneck inamorata's lap and said, "Drill. NOW."

If you can, get straight codeine instead of the stuff adulterated with acetaminophen (Tylenol), because that stuff (Tylenol, that is) does horrible things to the liver if you take too much, or if you have a compromised liver in the first place (probably not your situation, but just for general information). I accidentally overdosed once, during the most hellacious sore throat of my life, and ever since then the stuff makes my liver want to throw up. Which is a really weird sensation and not fun at all, at all.

Nor is tooth pain. I hope all is resolved soonest.

I'm usually not a chicken at the dentist but tomorrow I go for a gum tissue graft. It sounds awful. They called yesterday and asked what my favorite pain medication is. So I think I will be in the same shape as you are shortly.

You should look into going into one of the border towns of Mexico and getting it done, that's where I go, clean facilities, knowledgeable staff, interpeters if you need them, fast work, and they give you a guarantee on your crowns etc. I will never go to a dentist in the US again. And they accept insurances etc. I got 8 porceiline (sorry I cannot spell that word) crowns with all the work etc for 1200.00. With the guarantee like I said. My whole family goes there now, and they pick you up and take you back across the border so you don't have to drive. Open on weekends too, and they take checks. Email me if you'd like, donnathedead@yahoo.com. Seriously Rob, they've saved me a fortune.
They have a thing where they redo your entire mouth for 5k, all crowns and veneers, really nice work.
