"Positively TEXAS!"
Another TV moment, from "Positively TEXAS!" on CBS 11 in Dallas, hosted by Iola Johnson. I didn't expect it to run until next weekend, but my DVR is apparently smarter than I am.
This interview felt a little awkward, for some reason. Perhaps it was all those extra chins I wore that day. Good lord.

Dude, the lady like, openly interrupts you repeatedly -- completely uncool. Also, she acts like she's got NO idea what you wrote about and she's asking you questions as a perfunctory part of her job. Grrr.

I thought you did very well actually. I stopped by the Arboretum store and got the book on my way to my dad's house today. I was reading it in the dark while they examined his eyes. I was reading it a moment ago when I should have been working on my in-laws taxes. You crack me up! What you didn't tell the lady is that you can take a sad (if heart-warming) story and make it laugh out loud funny. You know, I'm going to tell you what they told Diablo Cody...write a screenplay. We'll be saying "I knew Rob when he wasn't even a blogger because the word wasn't invented and he went to JournalCon. And now he has an Oscar."
The woman has no idea how to interview . . no pauses to take in what you have said or to let the listener digest it. She constantly ran over your words and I felt she had a list of questions she had to get through and so did not listen to your answers Maybe this was her first experience?
She could not have read the book. Her reactions were shallow and she was so perfunctorily pleasant and apparently unengaged in the subject or you as a person. You did a great job despite her amateurish performance.
Agree with those above, my impression was that she is a nice enough lady who totally didn't read any of the book. More of a quiz than a conversation or interview.
Still, you're making the rounds! Good momentum all around.
Yeah, that's sort of how I saw it. It was what it was, a five minute segment giving the bare bones look at the book and the story. If I were doing five minutes about a book (and there were two others on that episode as well), I seriously doubt I would have read the book, either.
The "Think" interview dug a little deeper (and with an interviewer who read and genuinely liked the book), and it's one I'm really proud of. But this appearance served a purpose as well, and I'm glad I had an opportunity to do it, aside from looking like Robba the Hutt.
I thought it was an awesome interview, in terms of introducing the topic to the viewers. You were so composed and articulate! I'd have been squirming, flapping my hands around and saying "Um" and "like" every two seconds. Well done!
Wow, dude, you're really getting the PR :) Is this all Julie's hard work, or is the publisher pulling strings too?
Still not released in the UK (Amazon UK saying delivery estimate 4-7 March, but it's not been sent yet), so hopefully soon. I checked the main Borders in London on Sunday and couldn't find it.
As I've said before, if you need any help posting copies to UK press or whatever, let me know!
All this PR is great! Honestly, any interview for tv would feel awkard to me. You handled it really well despite the limitations of your interviewer. I just traveled 1.5 hours yesterday to a Barnes and Noble to buy the book and see it on the shelves. It was right next to a book by my favorite author, Wallace Stegner. Can't wait to read it!
No...the interview IS awkward, but it has nothing to do with you. It has everything to do with the woman's lack of preparedness. The fact that she wished Schuyler "continued improvement" at the end shows that not only was she not prepared to talk with you, but she also didn't listen when you said that this is a static condition.
But no publicity is bad publicity, right?
I read darn tootin' and wondered why it was all about you & where's mom? Glad I linked and found this. You're much less of a smart ass, apparently, than you come across in print. On YouTube her mom doesn't look too happy. She has dead, depressed eyes. If you don't like Plano, why don't you move?

Yeah, while it might restore your faith in my smartassitude, I don't think my two-word response to that would bring you much joy.
