So what is the thing that I should spend time fretting about today? The determination by the dealership that Julie's car is officially dead (turning us into a one-car family, with me working an hour away from Plano), or the fun fact that I do believe I am getting another kidney stone?
Decisions, decisions!

Sorry to hear this! The kidney stone because physical pain is less tolerable than wallet/bank account pain, so says the person with shingles. Ouch. I hope you feel better soon.
Right now, it's in that early stage where it feels like lower back pain on one side. Not bad, but I remember last year's kidney stone adventure. This doesn't end in a fun way.
Having given birth to both an 8 lb & a 10 lb baby, I can sympathize with you. Hopefully, you get good drugs! :) Hang in there! I feel your pain about the car. Mine was pronouced dead 3 weeks after my husband lost his job.
oh ouch. on both accounts. feel better soon!
You don't have time to fret you have to spend your time drinking a ton of water and locating an appropriate sieve!
Sorry about your choices, R, they both suck.
I hope you feel better soon. I had a kidney stone attack about 4 months before I gave birth to my 8lb 12oz son. I would choose labor and delivery over kidney stones any day.
Geriatric VWs with end-stage diseases are never, ever fun.
Neither are kidney stones.
Cheer up, it could be worse! Your kidney could be declared officially dead and Julie's car could have tiny deposits of calcified material damaging its innards.
Shit. No, that wouldn't be worse actually. Sorry, you're screwed.
And thanks for the reminder to get my ass to a urologist. Or my - uh - anyway. Yes. Kidney stones suck so bad, if they were a race of people I'd be a racist. I hope you aren't headed down that path again.
I'd worry about the bank account because, honestly, that kidney stone and its associated nastiness will be paid for by your health insurance, right? Being a one-car family, on the other hand ... nyeah, not so good.
My DH had several kidney stones years ago. Then someone told him when he feels that "twinge" to sqeeze 3 lemons and drink the juice (he adds a little honey to get it down). Sometimes he has to do it several days in a row but it's cured him every time. Can't speak for what it's doing to the enamel on his teeth, but it's definitely an easy and cheap thing to try.
One car does suck... I know, because we are there right now, too. You may want to look into DART on-call.
I have never had a kidney stone, but I hear the whole honey and lemon juice thing before.
I hear dark sodas contribute to the formation of those things. Something about the caramel coloring? I don't know.
Her car isn't even that old, is it? That sucks. We were a one-car family for about ten days recently, and were all ready to maim each other. Hope yours doesn't come to that. :)
The good news is, I saw my doctor, and it's not a kidney stone. I believe my aching body is suffering from the onset of Forty Sucks Syndrome.
The bad news is that Julie's car is not looking like it is long for this world, and the behavior of Volkswagen has been even worse that we've experienced in the past. Did they get bought by Bank of America and I didn't hear about it?
On the other hand, the car is almost ten years old. We were sort of hoping it would last long enough to be able to afford a replacement, though.
Long Time Lurker...First Time Commenter. :)
My dad swears by drinking water like crazy (more than a gallon a day) when he feels a stone coming on.
Can't wait for the book!
