I've donated Beelzebug to
Texans Can!, an organization that helps at-risk kids get an education. They came and picked her up today.
The whole time they were hooking her up and taking her away, I had this big old lump in my throat. Okay, I need to go take the New Hotness for a drive before I turn into an old woman for good.

We donated our (out-of-commision) car to Heritage for the Blind. I remember getting a strange phone call at work from my then-roommate: "Um, 'the blind' are here to pick up your car ... ."
An old woman. Ha ha ha. No, we *heart* you for being sentimental. I think if you would have shed some tears, some of us might have erected a statue for you right here and now.
I don't think a man is allowed to cry in front of the burly tough-guy tow truck operator. I think it's a law.
A fitting end though..
I remember when my trusty Volvo departed, I did cry. Ah, the adventures we had together.
Such a sad photo! I still recall the humble departure of our family car (a 1970 Olds Cutlass convertible) back when I was a little thing--it seemed like I cried for hours ;-) Funny how you get attached to inanimate objects...*sigh*
My daughter, who has Asperger's Syndrome, wept
on the kitchen floor for hours when our microwave
broke. I won't even try to explain how many weeks
I have to keep our old, dying Christmas trees each
year after they've been taken down; they have to
stand by the front gate so she can chat to them as
she comes and goes -- they are "old friends." So
strong attachment to a car actually sounds
reasonable to me!
Hey - nothing wrong with crying over a car that did you well for so many years. I am still more fond of the first two cars I had (an 86 Chevette in college - ha! - and a 98 Ford Escort) than I have been of the cars I've had since, even though both of the cars I've had since are technically "upgrades" from my old cars.
And it's good that Beelzebug is going to a good cause.
awww! poor bug. but, like you said, the new hotness is hot. strike that, i meant hotttttt. seriously.
Um, Rob, while it's all altruistic that you gave away Beezlebug and will receive a tidy tax deduction for your generosity, have you ever heard of the words "trade in?" I'm just saying.....
Hey -- Neil Young got emotional enough about getting rid of one of his cars that he wrote a SONG about it. You are in good company.
My daughter gave up her first car today. It was a 95 Camry we bought for her when she was in 10th grade (March 2002), a schlubby "widow's car" that she drove without complaint (at least out loud to us). She just graduated from college, starts her first job next week that entails a 40-mile commute. It was time to learn about the world of car payments.
I think we both felt a little sad. We said goodbye to more than that car today.
I may be a little lost...or missed a post, but can I ask what the new hotness is??? I'd cry over the beezlebug too....
Awww… poor ole Beezlebug. I completely understand. I am sure I'll burst out into tears when I have to change cars, whether there's a tow truck operator present or not. At least it's going to a good cause!

Especially in Texas...
