Last month, Schuyler was interviewed by Tim Rogers of D Magazine, a cool Dallas area monthly. It was a surreal experience, in which he emailed questions and she answered with the Big Box of Words, which was attached to the computer like a second keyboard. She took the interview very seriously and crafted her answers very carefully. I set up a camera to take pictures while we did it, because I am a nerd.
The print version hasn't hit the news stands just yet, so I can't say how it looks on the page (or if it's even in print at all, come to think of it), but you can read the article, "Thinking Out Loud", on the D Magazine web site.
There will be absolutely no living with her now...

Totally love the dreaming of talking to Santa bit. I don't think there wasn't a 8 year old not dreaming of Santa at that time. My eldest 2 were counting down the days and asking what were in the boxes that the postman/delivery guy was bringing.
It got to the point that i didn't have to open my mouth to reply as my younger girl would then say "nothing to do with me!".
Lovely. She's just got so much fire and spunk that comes through.
And I sure hope she got her wand and roller skates ;)
Congrats, Schulyer! What struck me is how her answers were exactly that of any other kid her age, really, despite him sort of prompting her for other responses.
Love the Ariel response. The interview is great! I do love glimpses into the wonderful world of Schuyler.
I just keep saying the same thing over and over and over...your kid, Schuyler rocks. She just does. You are so very blessed. -so.

So adorable! And I'm so glad someone else thinks she looks like Drew Barrymore! Remember when I left that comment on your FB Wall a few months ago about that? I thought I was crazy, but now I know, at least someone else is crazy too. LOL. She really does look a lot like her.

I loved the interview. And like someone else said, I loved that she answered however she wanted and not like the interviewer seemed to be leading her.

That was great. I laughed out loud when she said that her device could sound "old like Daddy and Mommy" though. I told my daughter the other day that I was 2007 years old and she didn't bat an eye.
SO COOL to read Schuyler's own words about her life and interests - not that we don't enjoy hearing it from you, Rob, but I look forward to the day (as I'm sure you do) when Schuyler can really "speak" for herself! Can't wait for her to have her own blog ... ;-)
You know, she used to really, really look like Drew, but as she gets older, she's looking more and more like Julie all the time.
Oh yeah, and you should totally rent E.T. for her. ;-) And later, maybe Ever After, where Drew plays an intelligent, spunky, strong and independent version of Cinderella. No similarities there, nope, uh-uh, no way.
I love her independent spirit; it shines through in her handling of the interviewer! LOL
And the pictures of the two of you during the interview? Sweet! In one you look like you're a little misty eyed...don't disillusion me if you weren't! It's very touching. :-)

I just read your story in GH. What a story about a spirited young girl. It hit home in the beginning when you referred to school "They were wrong, and we were right"
Parents should always follow their instincts..you know your child best. Question your teachers if you have any doubts it could change your child`s whole future!

Hi there...I lurk a lot...but wanted to say how totally impressed I am by your daughter's willingness to share her story and her experiences at such a young age. So many kids in her position wouldn't have the self-confidence to do this, and the fact that she does is an incredible testament to your good parenting. Congrats...not only on the interview(s)/book but more importantly, on your successful parenting.
I can practically hear the giggles accompanying that interview. Too cute! She did a great job of talking for herself. It's so much of an accomplishment for her on some levels, and so normal on others.
Just curious - is the Ariel comparison hair- or voice-related? Cuz, really, could be both (at least at the moment).

Awww, that is precious. I really didn't understand much about the BBoW, so it was nice to see some pictures. That's cool that it can plug into the computer, and that it has pictures on it for her to type with.
