I was starting to get a little twitchy, editing and re-editing, adding little bits and generally obsessing over the manuscript. When I finished the manuscript last week, it stood at about 85,000 words; since then, it grew by another 2,000.
I finally decided today that enough was enough. As of about 8:30 tonight, three copies were on their way to New York; two for St. Martin’s and one for my agent. They should get them in about a week.
I feel like I just sent a kid off to college. What do I do now? I guess I’ll start another book, what do you think? Here goes nothing...

No, I'm pretty sure they want me to write something in the same genre. My fiction is going to have to wait, I think.
One of my favorite quotes, by a man whose book I typed several times (in the pre-computer days): "An author doesn't finish a book--he abandons it." You can "one more little thing" a book to death. Sooner or later, you have to send it off into the world. Congratulations and godspeed to UPS!
That's funny, my agent sent me that same quote yesterday when I wrote her and told her I was thinking of just sticking it in a box and sending it rathet than the "one more read-through" I was considering for the weekend.
I think you should kick back and relax and enjoy a great bottle of whatever your fav liquor is.....lol. Celebrate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I imagine once you get two or three good non-fiction books out there, the fiction will be smooth sailing.

I don't have enough to say about diabetes for a whole book. "It sucks."
But the book that my agent seems the most excited about is one on the topic of fatherhood, from my own personal perspective, and since my father's diabetes was such a huge part of his life (and by extension, the rest of ours), I suspect it would be a big part of such a book.

You could totally write a diet book about the Beedies. "I got my Beedies under control, and YOU CAN TOO!"
And you on the cover once again adorned in Chucks, pointing your finger at all those who need your words of encouragement on how to do it right. Maybe you could wear a t-shirt that says "The Beedies suck(s?)" Huh---would that be with an s or no?
Maybe a book on Beedies grammar?
It IS a bit like sending a kid off to college in terms of the "what do I do now" aspect, but believe me, starting another kid is the LAST thing on your mind in that situation!
