Meeting Swee
Schuyler got it into her head that she wanted a guinea pig after seeing babies at the pet store over the weekend. After she saw an adult yesterday, however, she was sufficiently intimidated by their size and downgraded her request to a hamster. Given the amount of experience we've had with hamsters and the number of old cages we had sitting in storage, we considered this a win.
Schuyler named her new hamster "Swee". Well, originally it was something like "Sweexblizzyxl", sounded out on her Big Box of Words, but she shortened it. I think Swee is a fine name for a hamster.
That's the rhythm of life with Schuyler. Occasionally her monster gets all the attention, but today it's a baby hamster named Swee.

Congratulations on acquiring Swee. My kids have two Dwarf Winter White Russian hamsters - Princess and Nibbles.
Is the term "sucker" in order? Of course, this comes from the parents who bought a lizard for their son last year. *ahem*
I've always liked hamsters, so I don't see it that way.
Adorable picture!
Swee is a very cute name, I'm sure she'll provide hours of fun hamster antics :)

Also, not to steer away from Schuyler's thunder, but I must point out that, in addition to being a great writer, you are a very talented photographer! Your pictures are always so expressive and artsy (in true fancy pants form).
GREAT photo!
I had many pet rats (yes rats)... My first was named Stemplton (a buff color female), and other later on was called Studly (a male black a white). They use to sit on my shoulder and walk around the house. They loved pizza crusts.
If your in the mood for video head over to YouTube and search for "Hampster on a piano, eating popcorn..." very funny.
I always loved hamsters as a kid but didn't do to well when it came to their mortality.
I decided that it was cruel to keep getting hamsters when I was clearly unhealthy for them.
I love the picture and like the name. I wonder if my wife would let me have a hamster. I better not tell her about the whole mortality thing.
Birds, dogs, hamsters. Why no cats?
It is an incredible picture, as someone else mentioned.
Beautiful pic
Yeah, guinea pigs are big, intimidating brutes, what with the snarling and the fangs and all.
I threw caution to the wind and bought two of them for my son. Their names are Wheat-Wheat and Squeak-Squeak because those are the noises they make -- enthusiastically when they hear the crisper drawer in the fridge slide open and menacingly whenever they catch sight of one another.
Great picture! I hope they have lots of fun together.
Oooof. I've been thinking lately that a post-divorce GuiltPet (tm) is in order, and spent some time studying dwarf hamsters with my youngest at PetSmart the other day. Would like to get the new house a little more squared away before bringing anything that eats and craps into it that isn't already here (us and the bird). I love the name Schuyler picked out--very cute. As is the picture.
What a terrific photo -- maybe a hamster should be OUR next pet, as we've two successive deaths of tadpoles this week.
FINALLY, more hamsters :)
Love the picture!
