Dallas Child

A local free monthly called Dallas Child, asked me a few months ago to contribute an article to their regular "daily diary" feature. I wrote up something for them and submitted it, and then promptly forgot about it like a doofus until Julie (who did NOT forget and had been watching for it this whole time) brought home some copies of the June '08 edition from her store.

You know how it is when you write something and then don't see it for a while, then you come back to it and don't actually remember writing much of it? That's how I felt when I read this again. Not in a bad sense, but rather in a "I can be sort of amusing now and again" sort of way.

That sounds like an excellent epitaph, now that I mention it. Someone jot that down.

Dallas Child is available all over the place in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, but it's a pretty safe bet that you can find it at your local bookstore. For the other 99% of you who don't live here, you can read it online:

Awesome picture of the family -- thanks for posting! What a beautiful child Schuyler is . . . she always brings a smile to my face!

Great article, great picture. Schuyler has so much vim in that picure that she pops out of the photo.

You mentioned in the article Schuyler's Martian language. I call Andrew's verbal attempt "Andrew language". It makes me wish there was a babel fish, the translator from Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I am sure you know what I mean.

From Wikipedia

"The Babel fish is a highly improbable biological universal translator, in The Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams. In the novels, the Babel fish was a small fish which, when inserted into the ear canal translated all languages for the user. This was both a useful plot device for Adams, and the starting point for a joke about the existence of God. The Babel fish was put forth as an example for the NONexistence of God. Something that perfect could only exist if there was a god to create it, so the Babel fish proved there was a god. Proof denies faith however, and faith is the standard by which we are to know God. Oops, says God, without faith I have no followers, and disappears in a theological puff of smoke.(At which point humanity goes on to prove ebony is ivory and gets killed at the next zebra crossing)

Film?! Ok, you can't just put that out there and not give more info. Too cruel.

Schuyler looks like a little girl there! Hard to believe it was only a year ago.
