Schuyler is my weird and wonderful monster-slayer. Together we have many adventures.

Media for Monsters
Yep, that's People Magazine. Obviously, this was very cool.
American Public Media's Weekend America has posted their story about Schuyler, which you can also listen to on the page or via a podcast. (I tried embedding it here, but apparently I am not so bright.)
Speaking of being not so bright, apparently I fooled at least one person. I appeared on Think last night, and in a followup to D Magazine's Frontburner, the host, Krys Boyd, said, "He's great. Funny and candid and very, very sharp."
Which was also very, very cool. Usually I'm sharp like a Weeble, so it's nice to know I can pull myself together when necessary. I'll post the interview whenever it becomes available.
If you were considering coming to either of my book signings but decided against it, you missed what can only be described as Extreme Schuyler. On Friday night, she was rambunctious and crazy and starring in her own little variety hour special. The crowd was packed with people who know and love her, including my family, so it was to be expected. At today's signing, she became an unashamed capitalist, sitting beside me at the signing table and smartly handing the book to people as they walked up. She even participated in the signing, using funky pens made for her by one of her teachers.
If you were to suspect that I have never in my life had a prouder moment than the one in which I sat in a Barnes & Noble autographing copies of my book with Schuyler signing them right alongside me, well, you'd be correct.
Hi Rob!
ReplyDeleteBeen a long time blog reader of yours - since Schulyer's dx.
I ordered the book and can't wait to read it.
I was happy to see her face ( and yours) in the People mag! That is very cool. I love that pic, but mu all time favs are the ones in the pink wigs.
All the best,
Mary Ellen O'Neill
Congratulations to you, Rob.
ReplyDeleteI started reading you just after Schuyler arrived so, as most of your readers, I too feel as if I actually know you guys.
I'd sure love to see some pictures of Schuyler signing this book.
I bet the doctors/teachers/aides who dared to underestimate her would like to see the pictures, too.
Or, maybe a picture of all three of you flipping them off.
Anyway, congrats again, and may your futures be bright and shiny.
I got my latest issue of People and was just flipping thru it and low and behold I saw your book! Amazing. Wonderful. I am so happy/poud of you.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy. You so deserve all that this brings you.
Wow, you made it in PEOPLE magazine. You've gone totally mainstream now! Next thing you know, you and Schuyler will be hanging out with Paris, Demi, Brad & Angie...
ReplyDeleteI am so envious of the folks who got to see Schuyler and get her autograph. Pictures, Rob; we want pictures!
I got my copy yesterday. I finished it before bed. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHeard you on NPR today -- it came on while driving and I was only half listening and he said your daughter's name and I thought, I wonder if that's spelled like "Schuyler" and then he said "Rob" and I thought, oh, what a coincidence and then I thought, duhhhh! I turned it up and you guys sounded great. Can't wait to read the book. I'm gonna see if they have it at Powell's.
ReplyDeleteMy Amazon order should arrive this week. I am so very, very please for all of you!
ReplyDeleteJust finished reading your book, and, WOW! Congrats, Rob, outstanding.
ReplyDeleteOK... I'll admit to not having bought it yet... But I'm going to Monday... Just gotta get my butt to the bookstore at lunch.
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime, I am so excited about the review in People. I actually read People every week and it's super cool that you and Schuyler are in it this week.
When you go on the Daily Show, will you forget all about us little people? :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that you got the chance to share this with Schuyler. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteI was at your first reading/signing, the one in Plano, and it was way cool. Having your family, the Plano teachers, and Schulyer's classmates there was special. I've been reading you online since... '96 I guess. You must be so proud right now, for many different reasons.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm a little disappointed I didn't go to the second reading, I'd love to have Schulyer's autograph too.
Better go read now, haven't finished yet.
I tried to get my copy from the store to get that feeling of 'real' buying - but I just couldn't bring myself to drive 30 miles to the nearest bookstore selling it right now. It should arrive from Amazon this week!
ReplyDeleteMy is book not scheduled to arrive till Feb 27th, so still waiting =0( I did see that my library has four on order though!!! I guess they do listen when someone makes suggestions like this!!! So glad others will have access to your book and get to know about Schuyler and others like her! Glad I could help just a little in that way!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, Mr. Fancy Pants! Quite the ride for you, would love it if you and Schuyler could make it out to Tacoma WA!
Earline
Listening to the podcast now... wow.
ReplyDeleteThat's great - I can picture Schuyler signing away. Just FYI - I was at a B&N in Jenkintown, PA (just outside Philly) and there were three copies of your book displayed face-out in the new Biography section. It was very cool. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera to take a picture.
ReplyDeleteLike Mary Ellen--I've read since Schulyer was born but comment infrequently. I just wanted to congratulate you--not just on the crazy book success--but on your ability to adapt and make wonderful things out of such challenges. It's inspiring....so great that you've shared along the way too.
ReplyDeleteHi! Just commenting to say congratulations again, and that I wish I could have been at either or both of your signings. If you ever come to the Washington D.C. area, I will definitely try my best to be there.
ReplyDeleteBut I finally managed to get a copy of your book, and I love it so far.
Congrats again!

Not only did I enjoy your reading, but Schuyler was absolutely awesome on Friday -- I loved how she danced and waved at the crowd!
ReplyDeleteIt was great to finally meet you on Friday after all these years of reading your blog! I was pretty overwhelmed by the standing room only crowd. Julie was funny (in a good way) and stole the show a couple of times. My favorite moment was when you asked for questions and I asked you how Schuyler was liking all the publicity. Schuyler turned around in her seat and gave me a big thumb's up. I can definitely see great things ahead for her. Like I mentioned, I live a few miles from you and am available for babysitting. I'd be honored to be part of your support system :) We should hang out some time. My email address is tashina@ and then my web site domain.
ReplyDeleteI was at the book signing Friday and loved it! Your reading, although a little hard to hear for us "boomers" was moving. I paid full retail (unheard of for me!) and began reading it with coffee Sat am. I had read a chapter in the early release version (I have connections!)
ReplyDeleteIt was an awesome event. It sparked in me an interest in attending more book signings so it was successful on more than one level.
And the lemon cupcakes were fantastic!
PS: I am about 1/2 through and am savoring every minute. There are so many messages. Thanking you for your open-ness. And your "smartassitude". May I use that term?
Glad I was there for your proud moment on Saturday. Lots of fun, even if my kid screamed bloody murder when it was time to leave the very fancy Thomas train set in the kids' section.
ReplyDeleteThat People mention is big stuff, the resulting sales will probably pay for your Bedazzler.
i had been planning for weeks to go to the signing on saturday, but i ended up going to austin. i'm so bummed that i missed you guys. i would have loved to get the book signed by both you and schuyler.
ReplyDeleteRob, I'm so very pleased to be reading about this journey! Congratulations to all three of you!
ReplyDeleteNice Weekend America article, I enjoyed listening to the reporter and all three of you.
ReplyDeleteMy copy of the book arrived at work on Friday. Unfortunately snow kept me at home. Bummer! But it was waiting for me this morning and I've been reading it as I wait for the computer to complete onerous work. Excellent writing, I wonder if my co-workers are disturbed by my laughing.
This gave me goosebumps!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to you!!!
Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI was happily surprised to see the article in People today while waiting for an appointment. I am really proud of you and I'm going to show you off at work tomorrow. Consider doing a signing in Michigan, so old friends can come see you.
MAN I am so proud of you guys! *BEAMS*
