Well, okay. I guess I can go public now.
(from Publishers Weekly, 9/11/2006 - Deals)Blog to Book
Blogger Robert Rummel-Hudson's life was transformed when his daughter, Schuyler, was diagnosed with an extremely rare neurological disorder called Congenital Bilateral Perisylvian Syndrome (only several hundred cases have been identified worldwide). He began writing about his experiences in an online journal (belovedmonsterandme.blogspot.com) and will now publish his memoir, Schuyler's Monster, with St. Martin's Press; Sheila Curry Oakes acquired world rights from agent Sarah Jane Freymann. Schuyler, now seven, is nonverbal but communicates with the assistance of an electronic device. Rummel-Hudson will ruminate on the struggle with a child's disability while touching on larger issues of family, love and fatherhood. St. Martin's plans a winter 2008 publication.

Way to hit the bigs the first time out. St. Martin's Press.....yow.
ReplyDeleteWell done, Rob.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you and all the RumHuds!
Yay! I'm proud of you and I don't even know you!
ReplyDeleteAs a mom of twin daughters with various disabilities, I really enjoy reading about Schuyler and your feelings and thoughts as her parent.
Some of your deepest and saddest posts have helped to get me through some tough times. Maybe just because they make me feel a little less alone. You know, a little of "if he can do it, I can do it." Even though there are days when we still feel like we CAN'T.
Congrats to you and thank you for your honesty. I'll be one of the firsts to buy the book!
HOT DAMN.
ReplyDeleteAhem. Well.
Grandma Nora is in tears again, but this time it's for joy. Me? Same. We are so proud for y'all. We're proud of and for y'all every day, but this is bust-all-the-buttons level. I look forward to reading excerpts to the niecelet.
A thousand kisses from Tennessee!

Congratulations!! So exciting!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I've been meaning to tell you this for a while now, and can't remember if I have or not, but I've been reading your journal for years now, and often show entries to my fiance. We both agree that reading your posts about Schuyler make us more excited about being parents someday, and less afraid of the unknown/unexpected. So thank you for that. :)
Congrats, Rob.
ReplyDeleteThis is beyond excellent.
ReplyDeleteThat? Is so cool. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations...I've been reading your blog for quite some time...I'm very happy for you.
ReplyDeleteI am so completely thrilled for you. I have been reading your blog for years, about since Schuyler's birth and am forever quoting things from it to my hubby. This couldn't have happened to a nicer family. Kudos to all of you.
ReplyDelete(and a real spiteful IN YOUR FACE to that one jerk who kept writing that we were all idiots in believing this child existed... lame ass. Hate that guy. You couldn't have found a better "I told you so" than this, and yes, that is my inner child coming out. Sometimes I love my inner child.)
Biggest bummer?? Waiting until 2008 to READ it!!! But well worth the wait, I know.
I love you. I am proud of you. Go you. (i know that you know i mean all of this with pom poms and cartwheels and lots of genuine proud-as-hell grins.)
ReplyDeleteRight on! I know what I'll be demanding for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Rymer told me: "There's a Schuyler in my class only she spells it wrong, everyone knows it's S-C-H-U-Y-L-E-R not
S-K-Y-L-A-R. She doesn't have pink hair and a cool talking box either."
DUDE! St. Martin's for your *first* book? St. Martins, man! That is way beyond awesome!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so proud, even though I have no right to be! All I've done is sit on my butt and read your blog :) Congrats!!! Can't wait to see the whole thing.
ReplyDeleteGah! So totally awesome... I can't wait to read the book!
ReplyDeleteYou're so cool.
Congrats, Rob. I would like to add your book to my Child Disability syllabus. We'll talk.
ReplyDeleteEeee! Congrats! I can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a book I'd buy at the REAL bookstore. Not even a wait-until-its-in-the-discount-stores one.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations.
Fantastic! Congrats! I am very excited for you and I don't even know you!
ReplyDeleteYee-fuckin'-haw. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Rob. I'm so happy about this for you. It's really official now. I can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteDecember 2008?!?!
ReplyDeleteI guess I'll live until then. I do still have archives to read, I'll have to pace myself.
Congratulations!
Actually, I think it's more like January 2008.
ReplyDeleteWow.
ReplyDeleteWow.
Amazing, Rob. Amazing!@!!
Congratulations!!!
ReplyDeleteROBERT! Most excellent news! Hope you, Julie and Schuyler had a nice celebration supper! Now quit reading all these notes from us fawning, syncophantic, hangers-on and get to writing! I want my copy!
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo! Awesome, Rob. Can't wait to read the book.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem I have with the blurb is the sentence "He began writing about his experiences in an online journal" -- makes it sound as if you weren't writing online for years before Schuyler was born, and as if "beloved monster" is your first blog. But whatever, I understand that for brevity's sake they can't go into your whole friggin' history. Truly interested people will be able to find out the details.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. The official notice makes it seem real.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read it.
Cooler than cool. Way cooler!
ReplyDeleteI agree that it made it sound like Schulyer's diagnosis made you start writing. We were there, man. Those reporters, they don't know. And they should have said she communicates with a big box of words bought with money raised from legions of readers who didn't have to pay to read but did! Take that traditional media. But, sure, St. Martin's. That's impressive.
ReplyDeleteWell done and many congrats!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! St. Martin's is a fine publisher and I am sure you will do a wonderful job.
ReplyDeleteFantastic. But then I never doubted.
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteFabulous, Rob. I can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteThat's an important contribution to Humanity. I'll have to check it out ! Best of luck ! will pass the word to those in need.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! This is very exciting. I'm pleased to have my very good taste (tm) confirmed once again.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's all about me. ;) Go Rob!
How wonderful! That's incredibly exciting, Rob, and I'm very much looking forward to buying the book when it comes out.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
Wow Rob! St. Martin's Press!!! Congratulations.
