The Gift of Quackage

You know, you can go into a weekend with crappy old health problems and brand new health problems and crappy old money concerns and both old and new child worries and inexplicable exhaustion and your old friend depression. A full bag.

But when it's 80 degrees and sunny outside, and there are baby ducks in the pond outside your front door, I can tell you that eventually you're going to grab a bag of saltines, a camera and a happy little jabbery kid, and you're going to go play with the ducks.

Sometimes you need some breaks in life, and you might not get those breaks, at least not right away.

But you get baby ducks, and you appreciate them.

  1. Isn't it amazing how you can think it's all gone to crap and the oddest thing will make you look up just that needed little bit! I'm glad you found your ducks!

  2. Very well said, very well said. I think its the kid hugs and "Are you feeling better?" questions from the young'uns that make me stop and smile....love the baby duckie too.

  3. These cute little ones can bring a smile to anyone's face! I love all your duck pictures and especially this one that you chose to post. We have the same kind of ducks in the area I live but can never figure out exactly what kind they are. Great picutres and keep on posting more!

  4. Danke schoen, Rob. Danke schoen. Baaaaaby ducks. Sure cure for the sucks, I gotta tell you. So glad you have them so easily accessible for such superior photos.

P.S. -- Do you know they're actually saying "mack mack"? I discovered this at the Peabody Hotel. I walked over to the duck fountain, leaned over and said "Mack mack mack mack" very confidentially, and the ducks all looked at me, mildly alarmed, with expressions like "Oh NO, she KNOWS" and swam away. And then swam immediately back over to me and milled around, with one finally swimming up to me and saying, "Mack mack," also very confidentially. They all had little smiles on their little duck faces.

Apparently I am down with duck lingo.

They may have to kill me for telling you this, though.

    Kisses from Tennessee ...

  6. Be careful around those ducks -- you never know what they're really up to.

  9. At our home today, mommy and daddy switched roles. I went to a day-long seminar (PECS training)and hubby did the SAHM/D thing.

I came home to THE biggest hug ever from one of my daughters. Now I know what hubby feels like everyday when he comes home from work!

Then I came here to read and saw the sweet little duckie...man, what an awesome day.

(Seriously, some of your bird/frog etc. photos should be submitted to a nature magazine or something.)

  10. Dude, I have really never heard of a problem w/ giving ducks bread. Why would they want to eat lettuce when everyone else is serving bread. If you want my advice, stick w/ the bread. Sorry Meg!
